China chooses Spanish

The Chinese Education authorities have added Spanish as part of the High School curriculum for foreing languages, joining English, Japanese and Russian in this category.

According to Chinese official sources, there are currently 14000 students of Spanish as a foreign language in Chinese universities, and this number is expected to grow. Experts are sure there will be a surge in the demand for Spanish in the coming months and years.

In China, people choose to study Spanish mainly for professional reasons. Latin America is seen as a strategic area for business and investing and the economic links between China and Latin America are ever increasing.
